10 Packing Hacks for Moving Overseas!

Hola from Peru!!
We have remained in Peru for 4 days now and we've already fallen in love with this country and individuals. Your prayers are felt and God has currently offered in incredible ways. We will be in Lima for the next couple of days, then we head to Cusco where we will be coping with a Peruvian household for a month while we go to language school. At language school I, Devyn, will be continuing to find out Spanish, while Julian will discover Quechua, the native language.
Anyways, as we were preparing to transfer to Peru and talking with individuals about relocating to another country, we found that nearly everyone was curious to understand precisely HOW we were going to load for our move. So prior to we dove into how things are going here in Peru, we believed we 'd share with y' all 10 hacks that we found in packing to move overseas ... Enjoy!

1. Start Packaging EARLY & Do it in Stages.
Packing is overwhelming (I will be stating that a lot in this blog site haha) and if you resemble the majority of us, you have a lot of stuff, so leaving it all for the eleventh hour will worry you out more. You might forget things or potentially take too much. Julian and I began about 3 months beforehand by getting rid of clothes and things we didn't require occasionally (so many journeys to Goodwill). And we also began purchasing trunks early since they can get pretty costly so spreading that out helps. I likewise began posting advertisements early on Facebook to sell our furnishings and from that we had friends purchase a great deal of our stuff in advance to choose it up when we were prepared to move. Also making a list of everything that is in each trunk is something Julian and I forgot to do however can be found in handy when dealing with custom-mades.

2. Take Pictures of Your Home
This is truly for the memories. The apartment we moved out was our very first house together and it indicated a lot to us. So the photos are simply for us to remember and perhaps reveal our future household one day, to understand where it all began.

3. Loading Cubes!!
I have been an advocate for loading cubes considering that my journey to El Salvador a year back. On that journey, I might only take a continue with me and had the ability to fit 2 weeks worth of clothing and toiletries!!! Needless to state we bought as a number of them as we could and were able to get the majority of my clothes into one suitcase. I will not lie, though loading cubes are excellent, loading all my clothes and trying to make them all fit and not review the 50-lb limit was VERY DEMANDING and caused me lots of breakdowns haha (just being sincere).

4. Find Somebody Who Lives/Has Lived Where You Are Going & Ask Them ANY & ALL Concerns.
This is something a great deal of other individuals where telling us to do and honestly we didn't think it was that important ... initially. But a couple of months before leaving and becoming overwhelmed by not understanding what to pack we connected to another physician named Ari, who is actually presently living in the home we will be moving into. She has actually truly been a God-send. I emailed Ari a minimum of 3 times a week till we moved here. I asked her anything to whatever: from the size of the cooking area racks to whether we needed to bring rain boots.

5. Toss a Packing Celebration!
Invite somebody over who is a master at Tetris, who has no problem informing you "you don't require that", and who can handle you being stressed out. Our friend Sandra was another God-send for us !! She came over (ON HER DAY OFF) and spent the whole day, going through our things, making the calls we could not make on what we must bring, donate, or shop. She helped us load everything in our trunks and helped make it all fit without being over 50 pounds. THANK YOU SANDRA!!!

6. Discover to Let Go ...
At the end of the day you are moving overseas and can not take whatever with you and will need to let go of a lot ... A Great Deal Of your stuff. For me it was shoes, for Julian ... he had this crazy feature of keeping EVERY pen he owned given that college. Hahha. Why idk, however with Sandra's help Julian is now devoid of his pen dependency. Hahah!

7. Bless Others with Your Things!
This was most likely my favorite part about moving. Like I stated previously, we took many trips to Goodwill, but we also permitted our friends to go through all of our stuff and let them take whatever they wanted. It was really neat to understand that our things were going into the houses of people we love!!

8. Bring Things that You Will Miss!
In talking with Ari and other individuals that have done what we are doing like Julian's parents, everybody stated the very same thing, BRING The Important Things THAT YOU WILL MISS. For us, excellent bedding was extremely essential, also great knives, a few framed photos of our loved ones, and PEANUT BUTTER (obviously peanut butter is not a thing in other nations)! So that's what we made sure to pack!

9. Relax and Take A Second ... Lots Of Seconds ... to Make Fun Of Your Situation!!
As I have mentioned, packing is frustrating. At any caliber it can truthfully make or break you. Do not let it break you. Take a second to shriek, acknowledge the turmoil around you, and after that just laugh due to the fact that it is nuts. What you are attempting to do is insane: your house has never looked even worse, you are sleeping on a flooring, and taking a shower without a shower curtain while trying not to get too much water on the flooring, eating out of the exact same bowl for each meal, and just have one great t-shirt given that all the rest of your clothing are loaded. You're not living your regular life and its frustrating, however if you look at a distance, its also hilarious, so LAUGH! hahhaha! Also get out of your home, go explore the city you are leaving, meet buddies, and enjoy yourself, that actually assisted us when packing was dragging us down!

10. Document the experience!
Its really enjoyable to recall now on how much Julian and I performed in such little time. Here are some images of our last couple of months in Houston!
